The Plug...
o its credit, seining is one of the cleanest and
most efficient ways of catching salmon and other schooling fish. There is
little or no by-catch because the seine net does not ensnare the fish, it
simply stops them. The poor bastards don't even know what's happening
until they swing over the bullworks in a bag of jellyfish and
are thrown into the hatch by underpaid deckhands. Plus seining is one of
the least
cost-efficient ways to harvest the sea and, sadly, is on its way out.
